A new captain, a new squad, a renewed confidence. KKR, with star power both on the off the field, has always been the team to watch, but this season, they’ll be hoping to score a hattrick of titles. However, they’ve been plagued with injuries before the start of the season, which means their hopes will be pinned even more strongly to the performance of their young stars. Let’s take a look at the 5 young players who can bring glory to KKR.
Kuldeep Yadav: Spinning a web
One of the most popular players in India today, 23-year-old Kuldeep has only gotten better since his debut against Australia in 2016. Now a regular in the national side, Kuldeep will be hoping to recreate his international form for KKR. He already has an advantage, having played against most of the big names in the league. And as a lot of batsman have learned the hard way, once Kuldeep figures out your weakness, you’re not going to be hanging around the field for very long. Here, have this video of Kuldeep Yadav picking up a hattrick.
Shubman Gill: Greatness in the making
KKR managed to get sign some of the best U19 Indian players that won the World Cup this year, including top scorer Shubman Gill. At just 18 years of age, Gill has taken world cricket by storm, not just because of the number of runs he’s scored, but the way he scores him. With near-flawless technique and balance, watching Gill bat is one of the most pleasurable sights in cricket. Now, in his debut season, he’ll be hoping to extend his unreal form and make it count in VIVO IPL 2018. Be awed as Gill plays a short-arm jab for six.
Kamlesh Nagarkoti: Breathing fire
When was the last time you saw an Indian bowler consistently hit speeds of 145kmph+? 18-year-old Nagarkoti is one of the most exciting fast bowling talents India has produced in the while. His performance in the U19 World Cup wowed viewers and left broken stumps and helpless batsmen in its wake. We can’t wait to watch him showcase his speed in the VIVO IPL 2018! Check out this snorter from Nagarkoti!
Shivam Mavi: Breathing fire (Part 2)
When was the last time you saw TWO Indian bowlers consistently hit speeds of 145kmph+? Shivam Mavi was Kamlesh Nagarkoti’s bowling partner in the U19 World Cup, and it’s no surprise that the team won the trophy considering the opposition had to tackle these two speedsters. 19-year-old Mavi impressed one and all with his searing pace and unrelenting accuracy, as he, along with Nagarkoti, took down batting lineups like ninepins. Will this be the fast bowling partnership to watch in the VIVO IPL 2018? Bring it on already! Watch Mavi’s express pace at its very best.
Rinku Singh: Ready to deliver
The son of an LPG delivery man, Rinku Singh’s selection is one of the most heartwarming stories of the season. But let’s not get caught up in emotions - the boy can bat! A regular in domestic cricket for his side Uttar Pradesh, 20-year-old Rinku has been extremely impressive. His ability to bowl spin is an added bonus for his team. This season, he’ll be hoping to take his game to the next level and we’ll be there cheering him on. Watch Rinku take on R. Ashwin and L. Balaji with panache.
With some of the most talented youngsters in their team, KKR may just spring a surprise on their opposition despite losing quite a few stars to injury. This is an opportunity for the young men to rise to the challenge and make their mark. We can’t wait to watch them in action!
